Dr. Georg Verweyen

Director of the DAAD Information Centre Bangkok Thailand since August 2015. Verweyen studied literature, linguistics and philosophy at the universities of Bonn U and Bochum RU, with an Erasmus year taking him to Paris U IV in between. In 2001, he graduated with a Magister degree from Bochum RU and a doctorandus degree from the University of Utrecht, Niederlande. He was awarded a fellowship of the German National Merit Foundation for PhD research and in 2007 he was conferred a doctorate in German Literature from Ruhr University of Bochum. In 2008 Verweyen completed postgraduate studies in German as a Foreign Language (ZQ-DaF) at Düsseldorf U.

In an earlier posting for DAAD, he was sent to Kenyatta University Nairobi, Kenya where he was coordinator of the German Section and head of a language testing centre from 2009 to 2013. From 2013 to 2015, Verweyen worked in different capacities at the International Office at the [Köln U] and gave courses in German as a Foreign Language.

In his capacity at DAAD Thailand, Georg Verweyen is responsible for a broad range of topics regarding academic exchange between Thailand and Germany, such as the provision of information on Germany as a place for study and research, networking with research organisations and individual researchers from both countries and practical assistance to Thai and German universities who want to connect with international partners.
